Just a quick note that I've just upgraded to 13.04 alpha on my macbook air 5,2 and external DVI displays now work beautifully. Not sure what changes have caused the fix, but maybe they can be back ported for LTS folks. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu

I see these same symptoms on my macbook air 5,2. I've tried two different (24 and 23) Dell DVI monitors without success. For me, the external monitor usually goes red when I plug it in the second time. Sometimes this hangs the whole machine, sometimes not. In either case the only way to get the
