I couldn't install 1.1.4 onto 14.04 using the Wily package so I compiled the 1.1.14+dfsg package from source. It continued to issue the "connection closed unexpectedly" warning. I solved the problem for the time being by setting the log_level to "warn" for "general" and "error" for everything
