I can say this about 8.10 i386 beta: if I start a Gnome session,
everything is ok. If I start a kde session, it hangs after a while, and
switching to a console, with 'ps ax' I can see multiple lines with scim-
panel-gtk. So my system becomes quite slow, and I am forced to kill
manually scim-launnhe
Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 beta?

As far as I know, you have to add the following lines to ~/.scim/global
to activate skim:
/DefaultConfigModule = kconfig
/DefaultPanelProgram = /usr/bin/scim-panel-kde

I may have found a fix for this: killall scim-panel-gtk scim-launcher &&
scim-panel-kde
then go to the configuration window (now kde) and switch to kde.
