I noticed the lack of association too.
One one install attempt with a downloaded version all of the
functionality was there but I crashed ubuntu later on when i used that
3-d screensaver tool beryl.
Otherwise I have quite simply stopped using Windows except when I want
to play my mmorpg online
I have experienced the same error on Feisty with Wine, trying to execute
a Windows executable from an xTerm:
$ ./PHBSYS-01101528-UN.exe
Can't exec /usr/bin/wine-auto: No such file or directory at
/usr/share/binfmt-support/run-detectors line 103.
run-detectors: warning: unable to exec
I didnt use my native drive until the wine install to the linux
partition fAiled many times.
I have switched to freespire for now to see if i have any luck.

You shouldn't use your native windows drive to play with wine, just because
it's just to unstable for it.
Sorry, for not helping you any further. Remove your native drive from the
configs.
