Black and white S-video output only
Hallo,
there are two problems that effects me.
The first probelm is, that the connector is a 7 pin output. It provides
Svideo as well as a composite signal!
With upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10 the signal at the compsite pins
disapear and never went back! Only the Svideo variant is remaining.

@Jörg
Just to be clear, color does work, but only with a Svideo-to-composite
adapter?
Is what you say about the connector-pins in the last sentence a separate
issue than the color or are you just high-lighting that the problem
started with the upgrade?
@everyone for me, the problem was solved wi
Hello,
it ist still interesting for me. PAL is still not working with karmic.
With XP all PAL-options are running!
xrandr --output "TV1" --set "mode" "PAL" results in this:
xrandr --output "TV1" --set "mode" --verbose

Hello I don't know if anyone still interested in this bug, but
apparently xrandr changes NTSC to PAL correctly, you just need to
execute:
xrandr --output "TV1" --set "mode" "PAL".
(change 'TV1' for your xrandr device name)
VERY IMPORTANT the " "

OK, I think I found the ultimate workaround. :)
If you hate running randr all the time, as much as I do, you can try
this:
1.- Make sure your 'Section "Device"' contains this:
Driver "intel"
2.- Add the following section:
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "TV"

Mark,
I'm confused about https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-
xorg-video-intel/+bug/109934/comments/13 where you mention a hardware
fix. This does not appear to be the case on the Dell Inspiron E1505 I
have. This is one of the models that came with Ubuntu pre-installed.

Okey, it is solved - partially.
I have tested on a TV set which had both S-Video and Composite input
connectors. With S-Video and intel driver the image is colour in
TV_FORMAT PAL and PAL-N. With Composite, the image remains B&W.
I am not sure if I understand the background correct, however, is t
Hi Mark,
I tried this, too, but without success.
However, I am just considering that no one has mentioned the cable setup
- I use S-Video to Composite cables, since the TV has got only cinch
(one for audio, one for video). This cable combo worked fine on my
desktop with nVidia card.
By the way,
Hi Milan,
Have you tried my suggested workaround yet? (see above,

Marking as fixed since I also can confirm that the RandR 1.2 included in
Gutsy allows the intel video driver to output in color through S-video.
Simply do:
xrandr --output TV --set TV_FORMAT PAL;
xrandr --output TV --auto;
(Use xrandr -q --verbose to list what TV_FORMATS are available)

Hi,
Apparently this tv-out black/white problem is much more a hardware
problem than a software problem. I finally solved this black and white

from the TV to
