I also tried the latest mainline kernel as you suggested and still get
the hang.
Instead of reverting the package, I modified that Xorg.conf file you
provided earlier and changed AccelMethod sna to uxa and of course it
works now.

Could you provide the Xorg log from the hanging session? It should be
Xorg.0.log.old after you've rebooted. Although it's possible that the
system is unable to log anything at that point..
try a mainline kernel snapshot as well:
