The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

My problem disappeared when changing the graphics-driver.
I have an ati mobility radeon 9700 and often I install updates, without
rebooting for multiple days - sometimes weeks.
And since I didn't update the graphics driver with synaptic/apt-get, I wasn't
sure about that being the real source of
Same problem with an ASUS L3000D with AMD Athlon CPU.
The fan runs at maximum speed with the 2.6.22 kernel only, it works fine with

Even the upgrade to 2.6.20-16.31 did not make any difference.
The computer as I see it is unusable when there is people around. It sounds
like a helicopter ready for take-off.

2.6.20-15 does work... The fan runs on low speed all the time, and the
temperature never get as high as it does before the fan starts on 2.6.20-16
On 2.6.20-16 I have seen temperatures down to 25degr.C with the fan still
running full speed.

Similar thing on Dell Inspiron 9300. After it gets hot enough it stays at full
speed.
If I select restart from the Gnome menu, it restarts, but fan stays at the same
speed even after reboot.
I have to shut down, then press the on button to start the computer again to
get the fan speed down.
