Report a new bug about the locales problem if David's solution does not
work, and do not update this bug with any more details on locales as it
is not relevant.

If you have language problems, then you are probably missing appropriate
locales or your LANG variable is wrong.
Andrew, can you try this:
$ LANG=es_US.UTF-8 kazam
If it still produces the same error, then try generating locale for your
language:
$ sudo locale-gen es_US.UTF-8

I can confirm this with languages other than English as well. I'm not
sure if it is related, but there is an issue with at least the Spanish
translation:

I have the same problem:
Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10
kazam 1.0.6 'NCC-2893'
I'm using Gnome Classic (No effects) as my window manager. Seems to work
on the 12.10 machine (haven't tried the 12.04 one) when I log in with
Unity though.

Same problem with kazam 1.4.1, clicking on Area do nothing if ubuntu
language interface is Romanian. When change back to English clicking on

Hi, thanks for the report. It seems that you're not using Unity for your
shell. Are you running a compositing window manager? Compiz?
If you're not running a compositing window manager, then this is a known
issue and it was partially resolved in the unstable releases.
