This bug is actually a duplicate of 119351, which is fixed in Gutsy, so
I am going to mark it as such.

I connected my Epson 2450 using the firewire interface, then added the
attached file into /etc/udev/rules.d/ and now the scanner "Just Works".
Thanks to Andrew Packer for pointing me in the direction of /dev/sg*.
Also learned this morning that the Fedora people are going to try a
patch that they'
I have the same Epson 2450 scanner on IEEE-1394 and it is root and root
as described. It is not recognised when sane-find-scanner is used.
However, sudo sane-find-scanner correctly identifies the scanner.
