I downgraded to 1.8.x. The directory does not exist (since the 1.8 package does
not provide any files /usr/lib/nss).
With 3.11 the files are back again.

Just to confirm what you mean: with 1.8.x all certificates are gone from
security manager?

Fix works by installing the gutsy version of libnss3-0d as well.
The firefox-package should therefore depend on a more recent version of
libnss3-0d.

The issue is still present with the current firefox (upgrade within
gutsy due to the libnss related spell-cheching crashes). CA-certificates
are present on the system but are not showed/recognized within firefox.
All "builtin object tokens" within the security-preferences are missing.

Same here.
Fresh Gutsy with up-to-date firefox, ca-certificates, libnss3-0d (but no
libnss3).
In firefox "Certificate Manager" dialog, my own stuff is there but the
"Authorities" tab is empty.
this "-0d" package from firefox is starting to give me headaches. See
the last few comments of https://
I've got the same problem since I've purged libnss3 because a recent upgrade of
evolution dropped the last dependency I had upon it.
The only CAs appearing in firefox's certificates store are those I've manually
added (cacert.org, ripe.net).
If I reinstall libnss3, everything work fine.

I can confirm the same behaviour with a fresh profile.
As this problem affects nearly _every_ https websites (including
https://launchpad.net) I'm a bit surprised to see this bug marked with
low importance !
