Public bug reported: Ubuntu is storing non-cache data in $XDG_CACHE_HOME (default: ~/.cache).
How to reproduce: mv .cache .cache.BAK # log off and back on log off and back on, and note that, among other things, all launcher configuration is lost. I'm sure there are many more of this class of bug. It's likely that this bug should be filed against unity instead of / in addition to xdg-utils.
