Public bug reported:

Ubuntu upgrade to 13.04 went south and nothing so far is fixing the issue 
entirely.
Ran sudo apt-get update --fix-missing followed by a sudo apt-get upgrade 
--fix-missing,  it worked itself out for a few minutes and appeared to be 
making progress but then stopped and prompted me with an error,

"Processing triggers for ureadahead ...
Processing triggers for initramfs-tools ...
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-3.8.0-6-generic
modprobe: ../tools/modprobe.c:550: print_action: Assertion
