@hanafi: try running these commands in a terminal: "sudo apt-get update"
and then "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade", then retry to install audacity. If
that doesn't help, please quote the exact error message and the output
of "apt-cache policy audacity". Thanks!

Hello
thanks for your answer, you are right, since i wanted also to have lame i had
the following lines:
deb http://www.rarewares.org/debian/packages/unstable/ ./
deb http://www.rarewares.org/debian/packages/experimental/ ./
after commenting them out, everything worked fine.

Again, looks like you have an extra repository thats causing you grief.
Try removing it, or using a better 3rd party repository?
