Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

When plugging in a "Lavod" MP3 player, it is only detected as USB disk
(Mass Storage Device); i.e. it is not displayed with music player icon,
and Rythmbox is not started automatically. The player is a 256MB MP3
player with the name "Lavod" on its cord. I have no idea what model it
actually is. After testing, it seems to support MP3 files for playing
and WAV files for recording (with built-in microphone). WMA doesn't seem
to be supported.

This happens on a standard Ubuntu Dapper installation.

** Affects: hal (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
