AMD K8 Athlon 64 Ubuntu 6.06 LTS GNOME 2.14.3 07/31/2006 Openoffice.org-base 2.02-2ubuntu12.3-1 ia32-libs-gtk 16.2 ia32-libs-openoffice.org scim 1.4.4-1 ubuntu12 (gtk2-immodule, libscim8c2a, no skim) It appears to me that the 32 bit library im-scim.so is missing : When I call : ~$ ooffice --writer It tells me : (soffice.bin:10610): Gtk-WARNING **: /usr/lib32/gtk-2.0/2.4.0/immodules/im-scim.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory ... I have then have added the missing ... im-scim.so however then 'ooffice --writer' told me that there were other libs missing like libscim-1.0.so.8 libscim-x11utils-1.0.so.8 ... however this is far beyond my knowledge ;-) my computer:~$ aptitude search ia32-libs i ia32-libs - ia32 shared libraries for use on amd64 and ia6 i ia32-libs-gtk - gtk+ ia32 shared libraries for with OpenOffice p ia32-libs-kde - KDE ia32 shared libraries for with OpenOffice. i ia32-libs-openoffice.org - ia32 shared libraries for with OpenOffice.org p ia32-libs-sdl - ia32 shared libraries of sdl related packages my computer:~$ dpkg -l scim* | grep ii ii scim 1.4.4-1ubuntu12 smart common input method platform ii scim-anthy 0.8.0-1ubuntu2 SCIM IMEngine module for Anthy ii scim-bridge 0.1.4-0ubuntu2 Another gtk-immodule of SCIM ii scim-chewing 0.2.1-2ubuntu4 Chewing IM engine module for SCIM ii scim-gtk2-immodule 1.4.4-1ubuntu12 GTK+2 input method module with SCIM as backe ii scim-modules-socket 1.4.4-1ubuntu12 socket modules for SCIM platform ii scim-modules-table 0.5.6-1build1 generic tables IM engine module for SCIM pla ii scim-pinyin 0.5.91-0ubuntu3 smart pinyin IM engine for SCIM platform ii scim-qtimm 0.9.4-0ubuntu4 SCIM context plugin for qt-immodule ii scim-tables-zh 0.5.6-1build1 Chinese input method data tables for SCIM pl my computer:~$ locale | grep LANG= LANG=en_US.UTF-8 en_US.UTF-8 is fine, however I cannot input Simplified Chinese in Openoffice . SCIM does not recognize Oo . I can cut and paste Chinese Characters though.
