The coretemp sensor has been in the kernel since hardy (kernel >= 2.6.22
includes the module, as was written in the bug report).

I didn't make myself clear, when I wrote I build a custom kernel, what I did
was that I built a custom kernel from the ubuntu kernel source with this patch
applied, using the debian tools.
I am right now running that kernel, and the patch is the only difference from
the ubuntu 2.6.20.3 kernel so
Have you tried compiling the coretemp module source against the Ubuntu
2.6.20-generic headers or applying this patch to the Ubuntu kernel
source? Easier than compiling and maintaining a homebrew kernel.
