The LG L1740PQ monitor (17" LCD, 1280x1024) is not identified (Ubuntu
configures it as "Generic Monitor") and defaults it to a non-native
resolution of 1024x768. Videocard is a nVidia GeForce 7300LE made by
MSI.
Current workaround is edit manually the /etc/X11/
Can you please install and run displayconfig-gtk and check if your
monitor is listed in its database? If not, please report your monitor's
vertical and horizontal refresh frequencies and I'll add them to the
database.
