Joseph, I believe I accomplished what you asked (I'm just a little out of my depth on this). The output of uname -a: Linux russianridge 3.9.0-030900rc3-generic #201303171935 SMP Sun Mar 17 23:36:17 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux which seems to indicate that I have the new kernel.

John, please disregard my request; I did not notice that you included your dmesg file. I have recently found a kernel regression that affects ACPI on some older machines and might give symptoms similar to yours. However, looking at your dmesg I do not see the output that this regression would
