Additionaly I noticed that attempting a data transfer over wifi on the
effected machine has a detrimantal effect on ping times for other
machines on the same access point.

wireless connection becomes very slow after a few minutes (ping to my AP
increases from < 1ms to ~ 900ms).

Not fixed, the problem just reappeared with 3.8.0-19 this morning:
PING asus (10.85.3.65) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from asus (10.85.3.65): icmp_req=1 ttl=64 time=945 ms
64 bytes from asus (10.85.3.65): icmp_req=2 ttl=64 time=946 ms
64 bytes from asus (10.85.3.65): icmp_req=3 ttl=64 time=900 m
This seems to be fixed with 3.8.0-19, since installing that the wireless
is fine again.

Yes, 3.8.0-17 is definitely fine (using it right now as workaround).
