Public bug reported: The Synergy version used by Synergy in Ubuntu 13.04 is 1.4.10-1ubuntu1, which uses Synergy Protocol Version 1.4
Ubuntu 12.10 and earlier use Synergy version 1.3.8-1ubuntu1, which uses Synergy Protocol 1.3 Synergy protocol 1.4 is NOT backwards compatible with protocol 1.3, hence a Ubuntu 13.04 box won't work with any prior Ubuntu version due to this protocol mismatch.
