copies of the same file.

That does sound handy. I have been unable to install Ubuntu 13.10
myself yet so I am unable to confirm the maximum available
magnification. I'll try to remember to update this bug report once I
have that information.

With xpdf one can open the same file twice, which is handy for working
with two or more places in a document simultaneously. (Evince does not
allow opening the same file twice.)

This whole bug report is none of my business either, but if you want
some assistance it is helpful to know your usage-case. Sorry if I
sounded intrusive. Comment #6 is a good usage-case. I 'm not trying to
push you into using evince or anything, but you might be interested to
know that the zoom
With xpdf_3.02-12ubuntu2nopoppler0_i386.deb I opened many files
successfully on ubuntu, but the ubuntu-xpdf-version is broken for no
apparent reason and crashes with every file I test.
Xpdf is a very lean viewer and starts very fast to name a reason why to
use especially xpdf.

I know. "Why" is none of your business. The Ubuntu team should either
throw xpdf away or repair it. Keeping broken stuff is misleading the users.

xpdf-3.03-10 from Debian (!) has no problems opening this file.
Ubuntu's xpdf packages have been crashing for years on end on every
file, with only a single exception several releases ago.
