[Aspire V5-431]13.04: Brightness control visible but
Upstream now marked this as a duplicate of:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51231
workaround for 3.13 (maybe previous versions as well) is the kernel
option:
video.use_native_backlight=1

Title:
[Aspire V5-431]13.04: Brightness control
Thomas Christensen, bugzilla is legacy, and largely ignored by upstream
developers. As well, it holds none of the information requested by
upstream, as previously and fully documented to you in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1181927/comments/21
. Instead, you would want to
Instead, you would want to utilize the kernel.org format and repost to
the linux-acpi mailing list with the latest mainline kernel results.
I did that already: http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-
acpi/msg48469.html.
I have responded to this request:
I just reported the bug upstream http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-
acpi/msg48422.html, it has not yet reached the Kernel Bug Tracker.

Ok, a few questions.
I visited the url http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D

section Upstream kernels archive.
I downloaded the latest for saucy through Ubuntu-Mainline-Kernel-Updater
script
Thomas Christensen, could you please provide the upstream URL created to
the mailing list archive as per

Thomas Christensen, as per http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers
an update is available for your BIOS (1.22). If you update to this, does
it change anything?
If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s
Sorry I wasn't clear.
The test I made from the saucy DVD was with upgraded BIOS (1.22). It's
doesn't work right of the box, I am guessing that the kernel parameters
above would make it work. That's how I made it work on my current
raring.
Output is:
V1.22
