Public bug reported: Hi, I think this is fglrx related, but I'm not sure. It seems to have started with the most recent fglrx upgrade. Basically, if I leave my computer alone for long enough, it will turn the screen black. For a while, it will resume without a password (even though I've set it to require a password). After a longer period of time, it will become unresponsive. Before, I had a blank screen for a screen saver and it worked just fine. The first few times this happend I could alt-ctrl- backspace and log back in. It seems a lot like a hidden screen saver, but I've disabled every suspend and screen saver option I could find. I could never get my computer to suspend or hibernate correctly, so it might be attempting to hibernate.
The most recent time, it was much worse. I was watching a movie. When the screen blanked, it locked up immediately, even though I could still hear sound. I could not kill X, so I was forced to reboot. Does this bug constitute a security vulnerability? Whatever it is, it probably the worst bug I've ever encountered in linux, and I've found a lot. I'm running a dell inspiron E1705 laptop with an ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 and an Intel centrino duo with feisty.
