i just took my chance and installed all those 6 packeges.
i can tell that it works. now, the network manager applet shows right
characters for CDMA network.
i even connected and disconnected multiple times to see that nm-applet is
crashing, it does not!

and then, if they fail, is it easy to revert back to old version?
