Verified with 12.04.3 (3.8 kernel) this bug does not exist in stock image.
Verified with 12.04.2 + update (3.5.0-54) it works!
Therefore I will mark this bug as Fix-released
Please feel free to open a new one if you're still experiencing this
kind of issue.

As this 3G modem could work with newer kenel, and the error message you pointed
out is a Firmware Bug,
I don't think this will be BIOS, related.
