What's the state of this bug? Was the fix in 4.8.5 backported to
standard (non experimental) repositories? I don't think so, since I'm
using Linux Mint 16 KDE and I still have QT 4.8.4. However, I see
reports from people using QT 4.8.6, so how is it possible?

I'm getting these crashes with the current Kubuntu 13.10 packages (no
relevant PPAs on this machine).

KDE 4.11.3-0ubuntu0.1
As best as I can tell, this bug looks unfixed in Kubuntu, but marked
Fixed.
On my upstream report, I was advised:
