G'day, Further to my previous success using a custom-patched kernel, I found tonight that installing the backports module under gutsy gives me sound. The package I selected was linux-backports-modules-generic,2.6.22.14.21 which pulled in linux-backports-modules-2.6.22-14,2.6.22-14.10. A quick reboot provides sound without my custom kernel. I'm not sure which module in particular did the trick. I have attached the output of lsmod for anyone who wants to dig through the gory details. Anyway, I'm pretty happy with the situation, now.
