I have the same thing with ubuntu 64bit , when it asks to do a partial
upgrade it exits immeadiately if you press partial upgrade , selecting
cancel alows some upgrades to be installed. runnung sudo apt-get update
...upgrade...dist-upgrade clears the request for a partial upgrade.
