Thanks for your perseverance with replicating the bug.
Unfortunately, it isn't a real bug. Use current pages sets all of the
currently open pages to home by design.
An easier way to set home is to just drag the tab, or icon by the URL,
into the home icon.

I didn't notice this in FF for Windows. Is the set home pageS only in the

On my machine, when I do this, Firefox opens with a set of previously opened
windows, instead of one window displaying my home page (www.google.com.au)

I have figured it out! Your colleague (Robert?) asked if I was using the
Australian Language Pack. I presumed I was, but went to check in
Preferences.
If you look at the main tab under Home Page, if you only have one page open
when setting your home page, the tab for Using the page
