I cannot reproduce your problem in Xubuntu 14.04. However, I assume that
some KDE settings daemon does not launch or work properly for you,
because the cursor is missing no matter which non KDE session your are
using.
Did you already upgrade to a newer release of Ubuntu and/or try to
reproduce
