I must have grabbed the compiz updates when they were changing them for
fusion or something like that. I uninstalled compiz and reinstalled and
all is well now.

It seems that you use a third party repository for compiz that is
broken. Please write to the repository owner, that the upgrade path of
his or her packages are broken.
