This also broke my system after and update to the final 13.10 release,
so it doesn't look fixed to me. Probably related to #1233029, as the
solution for me was manually installing 'unity-scope-home'.

I did that because it apparently covers the same problem.
I unfortunately couldn't reopen this one, presumably due to missing
permissions. I'd like to encourage anyone who is able to do that.

filesfolders i see some files. if i click the 3rd icon i see recent,
download, folders. if i click the 'search applications' icon i see just
