FURTHER INFORMATION:
I am using a laptop with a Radeon Mobility X1400 gpu. Also, here is some
output from some commands (cut down because I'm not copy/pasting).

 $ lspci
...
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility X1400
...
 $ cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0
vendor_id : GenuineIntel
cpu family : 6
model : 14
model name : Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2300 @ 1.66GHz

processor : 1
...

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Get yourself a Dell laptop with 1680x1050 monitor and a Radeon Mobility
X1400.
2. Insert Gutsy live CD from last night.
3. "Start or install Ubuntu" or "Start in safe graphics mode"
4. Error message appears (with ugly border ASCII, too)

** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
