Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Could you try to reproduce the same with Ubuntu 8.10 or 9.04?

That would seem to rule out the security updates, and would point to
some deep configuration setting or other problem with Evolution.

The next thing to check is to see if down-grading the updates solves the
problem. Please run:
wget http://people.ubuntu.com/~kees/scripts/srcpkgs
chmod +x srcpkgs
sudo apt-get install $(./srcpkgs evolution-data-server 1.10.1-0ubuntu1)
That should downgrade all the packages from the update. R
