That command was accepted without error. I restarted lightdm (and later
the machine, too) and face now the following: The login screen attempts
and I enter my password for my user from 13.04. Then, for half a second
the screen is black and the login screen attempts again.
For my clean user, I
DISPLAY=:0 dconf reset -f /org/compiz

It's probably an issue in Compiz's configuration files.
Please try the following steps:
1) Boot Ubuntu as usual and reproduce the problem
2) Press Ctrl+Alt+F2
3) log in from the command line (enter your username and password)
4) Reset Compiz's settings by typing the following command:
