I'm having the same problem with a mobility radeon 9200 and the rc livecd. A sudo modprobe -r radeon sudo modprobe radeon fixes it, and after an X restart I get 3d acceleration. For some reason the agpgart module is loaded after the radeon module in the livecd, even though lsmod correctly lists
