Any updates?
New install of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Installed GNOME Shell 3.18.5
Tried to install hidetopbar following instructions on
https://github.com/mlutfy/hidetopbar
failed on last step:
~$ gnome-shell --replace
org.gnome.Shell already exists on bus and --replace not specified
Tried killing all
PS
Tried killing all unity related processes. 2 restart after killing:
$ ps -ax | grep unity
4001 ?Ssl0:00 /usr/lib/unity-settings-daemon/unity-settings-daemon
4039 ?Ssl0:00 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/unity/unity-panel-service
4138 pts/2S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto
Any update? Any info needed?
New install of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, installed GNOME Shell 3.18.5

Cassio, You either need to kill unity first, or run an intermediate
`metacity --replace`

Same problem here, I cannot switch to gnome shell. I think this is
related to the gnome 3 staging ppa. I'll try to use the stable
repository tonight and see if it works.

This probably happens because unity spoofs the org.gnome.Shell dbus
interface.
