If I correctly recall, this particularly affects GTK+-based desktops.
But I reckon we'll need to have someone confirm that it works in Kubuntu
(and/or LXDE-Qt by extension), as per the now-closed Quassel bug #1234,

the indicator-* stuff that I am aware of.

To manage
metRo_, not in Ubuntu/Unity. A nasty workaround for Xubuntu is to
remove the indicator-application package. That will at least allow the
tray icon to appear, but if anything else uses that package, you will
lose that as well. For example, the volume indicator.
The Quassel team states that
Rob Tongue, in my case I can't still open Quassel, I can see it had been
initialize, I can see people poke me but I can't open it :s
