Public bug reported: A recent change to 13.10 has broken userspace control of the keyboard backlight on my MacbookPro3,1. This was working well until about a week ago (1st week of October 2013).
The backlight device in the kernel still works; for example this will turn off the keyboard backlight: echo 0 | sudo tee -a /sys/class/leds/smc\:\:kbd_backlight/brightness Therefore I assume it's a gnome-settings-daemon (or upower?) regression. To reproduce: 1) Login. Note the state of the keyboard backlight (should beon, 100%) 2) Press a keyboard backlight hotkey Expected results: Keyboard backlight changes when you press the hotkey Actual results: Nothing happens when you press any of the keyboard backlight hotkeys ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.10 Package: gnome-settings-daemon 3.8.5-0ubuntu7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.11.0-12.19-generic 3.11.3 Uname: Linux 3.11.0-12-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 2.12.5-0ubuntu2 Architecture: amd64 Date: Mon Oct 14 20:09:56 2013 InstallationDate: Installed on 2010-09-17 (1123 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" - Beta amd64 (20100901.1) MarkForUpload: True SourcePackage: gnome-settings-daemon UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to saucy on 2013-08-07 (68 days ago) ** Affects: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug saucy ** Summary changed: - regression: keyboard backlight control no longer functional + regression: keyboard backlight hotkeys no longer functional -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1239886 Title: regression: keyboard backlight hotkeys no longer functional To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1239886/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
