I have the same problem in gutsy:
(amaya:27582): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_set_colormap: assertion
`!GTK_WIDGET_REALIZED (widget)' failed
The program 'amaya' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
It is still problem in Hardy.
Right in startup.

In Gutsy Gibbon I don't experience this bug anymore. amaya starts up
just fine now :). Can anyone else confirm this?

I don't know if this helps at all but this is the output I get when
running amaya from the terminal (and no, my nvidia driver isn't working
atm).
