looks fine. Can you try renaming grub.cfg to something else? If grub

Phillip thanks but I'm 100% sure that the log I have posted is the one

Ok I created from scratch the partition in gparted and you are right
they start from 2048 now. I think the previous partition table have been
created by a tool that generate bootable usb using syslinux.
I have checked the first file I have posted RESULTS.txt which refers to
fedora and at that time
The MBR contains the partition table and initial boot code the bios
loads, which is one part of grub. That part loads the grub core, which
can be a file in /boot/grub, but since files tend to move around and
that would break the MBR's ability to find it ( since it is so small,

Moreover if each sector is 512 bytes and 32 is the first partition why
do you say that there is not enough space? The mbr is 512bytes usually,

Thanks Phillips for answering.
Could you help me to understand what the installer is writing to the
mbr? Is grub itself or just something that tell to the bios in which
partition it can find grub?
In the past I used to create a /boot partition, what did it contain?
Grub?
All these question becau
No, that is not normal. The reason for it is that your first partition
starts at sector 32 so there is not enough room for grub. Can you
delete all of the partitions and reinstall? Newly created partitions
should start at sector 2048.
Also, you don't need a partition for /boot.

This is the output of the script concerning Ubuntu 13.10 installed on
the USB 3.0 as classical installation.
What look strange to me is that grub is not located at the first sector
of the /sdb device. Is that normal?
Why is not possible anymore to install the /boot partition in fat32?
Thanks
*
If the problem is the filesystem that the bios support when booting from
USB I have seen that I cannot create /boot in fat32.

Ok I will do it. For the moment I have tested again the Ubuntu Live
installed on the same usb stick and I can boot from it. But I believe
it is using syslinux and not grub. At least I know it is not a bios
limitation.
Please find attached the new Results_UbuntuLiveUSB.txt which concern the
install
Well we can't very well help with fedora, so you will need to reinstall
Ubuntu and update the results.

Ubuntu 13.10 does not boot from US
Please find attached the result. The usb driver is sdb and for a test
today I tried ti install fedora but it did not solve the problem. On
another machine, bios efi with bios legacy enabled I have been able to
boot from the usb 3.0. So I'm suspecting a bios limitation of my
notebook HP DV6 6030el
Please download and run the script here and attach the results:
