this did indeed turn out to be a hardware issue where the ALC275 chipset
physically failed (quite surprising). Replacement of the module
corrected the issue thus is not an issue with Ubuntu audio or the
kern
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.13 kernel[0].

Appears that this issue is actually a hardware issue. I tested both
Saucy and Precise live CDs and they had the same behavior on my L322X
and I know that Precise used to work. You can see that codec probing
isn't discovering the ALC275. The audio used to work right out of the
box with Precise so
