Customizing GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR works.
Unfortunately on UEFI, there is one vendor directory on the ESP by
design, so dual booting two copies of Ubuntu on the same disk, with
separate bootloaders doesn't really work.
This is known, but there currently isn't a plan to change this.

Using "--bootloader-id" doesn't work. Either remove the option or make it work!

It seems grub-install truncates the distributor at the first whitespace
and converts it to all lower case. I'm not sure why this is, but it
doesn't feel right. Maybe Collin can shed some light on it.

I had initially tried changing the value of GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR, however
grub-update does not take this value as the bootloader id.
If you notice the default GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2>
/dev/null || echo Debian` produces "Ubuntu", however the default
bootloader id is "ubuntu".

Rather than override it on the command line to grub-install, you should
customize GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR in /etc/default/grub.
