Is this bug still a problem for people, because there has been little
recent activity, and the general feel I'm getting from the comments is
that this bug has been fixed?

Since Ubuntu Hardy, amanda-common depends on openbsd-inetd or inet-
superserver. Is that enough to mark this bug fixed?

Works for me.
One caveat, though: Amanda comes with an xinetd configuration file all
ready to go. Folks using other programs may have some editing to do (but

I would like to inform Debian maintainer too, I think he can give us advices on
how to proceed correctly.
Could you please file a new bug report in Debian about this issue and link it
to this bug? If you haven't time, I will do it in the next few days.

amanda-common (dependency of amanda-client) 1:2.5.2p1-1 in Debian
depends on openbsd-inetd, so when you install amanda-client a inetd
server is installed too. Do you think it is enough to fix this bug?

It's a bare minimum fix, and has problems. It has the minor one of
requiring inetd for the server. Most server installations will also have
clients, or other programs that will use (x)inetd, so it's no big deal.
However, I just tried to install amanda-client on a machine that had

amanda-server depends on openbsd-inetd since 1:2.5.1p1-2.1ubuntu1. Is it
necessary for amanda-{client,common} too?

You received this bug notification because
Odd. I can't see why the server should require inetd, since it usually
runs as a cron job. A machine with the server but no client wouldn't
need inetd for Amanda (but it might for other things).
I wonder if Amanda used to be all one package, and when it was split up,
the dependency went to the
