running anjuta from terminal with sudo like this
sudo anjuta
in ubuntu 14.04 seems to solve this problem..

This workwround works for me too but it's obviously less than ideal from
a security PoV to have to run random pieces of software with system
prilileges.

this bug still affects Trusty 14.04, the anjuta list suggest that: it
could be caused by a version miss match between the version of glade in
stalled and the one against which anjuta was compiled
