Closing this ancient bug (which I filed) since it's against a long-since
EOL version, and I haven't seen this problem in any recent versions.

Still an issue. However, I was able to change the option through dconf.
$ cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=14.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=trusty
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS"
$ uname -a

I'm seeing this as well on an Acer Aspire 5733. In fact on installation
of the beta gnome-power-manager was not installed. Even after apt-get
installing it and restarting issue persists.
