Found on dconf-editor under desktop.ibus.general the key engines-order, and
despite not having english as one of my input methods, the first value on this
key was 'xkb:en::us'. Removed that and the problem was resolved.

XKBLAYOUT="gb"; in: /etc/default/keyboard (In my case the keyboard
reverts to US, despite me having it set to UK).
One possibe complication is that i am in South Africa where default
keyboard layout is US.
