Hi,
I'm now running mainline 3.14, however, as the reported problem only
occurred once and only under circumstances that I don't feel I could
replicated I am unsure as to how long I should run 3.14 before concluding
that the problem has been resolved...

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.14 kernel[0].
