Hi,
I'm also experiencing same freezes on my ASUS-U36SD with NVIDIA 331.38 driver.
CTRL+ALT+DEL helps but it's quite annoying.

Nope, when running on noveau the error does not occur. However, as I noted
before,
it appears to be some strange interaction between the touchpad and the nvidia
driver.
After deactivating the touchpad functionality (setting it on mouse mode), the
symptoms
disappear as well.

Minium, would downgrading the nvidia driver provide a WORKAROUND
following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia ?
** Description changed:
- The screen casually freezes during normal operation. The problem can be
temporarily
- bypassed by accessing the display manager
Hi,
I have the same freeze on a clevo W655 with a Intel graphic card (With
Xubuntu 14.04). So I don't think that's only NVidia driver which cause
the bug.
When the laptop freeze, i can stop the freeze by log out and log in with
Ctrl+Alt+Del.
Regards
