As a note, the content displays in Galeon, but not Firefox.
My Firefox about info:

I'm actually having the same issues, but I DO have flash installed.
In about:plugins It shows
File name: npwrapper.libflashplayer.so
Shockwave Flash 9.0 r48
Going to www.astros.com the main image block just doesn't show up.
On www.ncsu.edu the main image flashes for just a moment then disapp
